Emergency planning

Apartment building emergency planning checklist

Use this checklist to turn an emergency plan into a repeatable building workflow that staff can maintain and residents can participate in.

Set up your building

Start with accountability

Assign responsibility for keeping the roster current, reviewing incident reports, and coordinating communications. A plan without a named owner tends to become outdated.

Capture information residents can provide

Ask for contact details, preferred language, mobility limitations, medical training, generators, extinguishers, and emergency contacts. Keep the form simple so more residents complete it.

Practice the communication path

Know how staff will send a building-wide notice, target a floor, review responses, and document what happened. Testing the workflow before an emergency exposes gaps while there is still time to fix them.

Make your emergency roster useful before you need it.

Start with one building and keep your resident information ready for the moment it matters.
